This year’s edition of Superyacht Cup Palma was a milestone event for Hoek Design’s Truly Classic line of sailing yachts, with three Truly Classic 128s – Atalante, Vijonara and the brand new Linnea Aurora – making up more than half of the fleet in Class 1.
These iconic and spectacular yachts have graced nearly all of the world’s major superyacht events over the last decade, with frequent success in racing. However, SYC Palma 2025 is the first time that three TC 128s have ever competed against each other on the same racecourse, effectively creating a closely matched fleet of their own within the regatta.
As well as their strong showing in Class 1, the TC 128s were also competing for the Hoek Design Cup, which is awarded each year to the best performing Hoek Design yacht at SYC Palma.
Racing
The first day of racing saw a closely fought duel between Vijonara and Atalante, which are both regulars at SYC Palma with a wealth of racing experience, while Linnea Aurora was unfortunately forced to withdraw before the start due to gear failure.
The tables were turned on the second day of racing, however, with perfect sailing conditions in the Bay of Palma. Linnea Aurora powered ahead of the whole Class 1 fleet and scored a decisive win on her first ever competitive outing.
Linnea Aurora’s winning streak continued on Day Three with another win in Class 1. Had she been able to race on Day One, she could well have won her class in the regatta.
Even so, in the overall rankings she still finished third in class, ahead of her two sister ships and claimed the Hoek Design Cup. It’s fair to say that she has the potential to be a force to be reckoned with on the regatta circuit.
‘Superyacht Cup Palma is a rare opportunity for owners to experience their yachts sailing in absolute peak performance mode with some of the world’s top professional sailors among their crew,’ says Hoek Design managing partner Ruurt Meulemans. ‘And for us as naval architects it’s immensely rewarding to be on board when a yacht we’ve designed is being pushed to the limit.’
TC 128 series
The TC 128 is the current flagship model of the Truly Classic design series. These yachts are the proverbial wolf in sheep’s clothing with a winning combination of elegant classic styling above the waterline, modern high-performance hydrodynamics, 21st century sail technology, carbon rig and relatively light displacement.
While primarily conceived for fast, comfortable ocean voyaging, the TC 128s are also extensively optimised for performance in race conditions and designed to transition easily in just one day from cruising mode to fully optimised racing mode. Five of them have already been built. As semi-custom yachts with identical hull lines, closely matched racing between them is assured, but their sailplans, deck plans and interior layouts are fully customised by individual owners
