A trio of Wally Nanos race in the Palma Vela

10 May 2018

For the first time in history, a trio of Wally Nanos has participated in the PalmaVela regatta at Real Club Náutico de Palma. Running since 2004, the regatta has become a referential event in the sailing world, making its mark across many different sailing sectors and attracting a healthy Wally class. This was the first year however that three Wally Nano yachts came together; racing in the Spirit of Tradition class against one further entry, Legolas.

Niji was one of the first Nanos created and recently underwent an extensive refit in Mallorca. Her two fellow Nano competitors were hull four, Pilgrim and hull five, Little Thila, which emerged victorious in close racing despite adverse weather conditions.

The Bay of Palma regatta was held over 3-5 May and was eagerly anticipated by the Hoek Design team. Seeing the success of the racing in Palma, Andre Hoek says he’s now looking forward to more Nanos entering for a larger racing class in the coming years.

The 37ft Wally Nano MKII day sailor is designed by Hoek Design and Wally and built in Holland by Doomernik. Contemporary classic lines are combined with advanced carbon construction technologies, design techniques and sailing features.
