Lionheart wins all three America's Cup J-Class events
The J-Class Lionheart recorded the biggest victories in her four-year racing career by winning both J-Class race events and the Superyacht Cup, held this week in Bermuda as part of the America's Cup celebrations. “Lionheart sailed extremely consistently to gain her victories recording several 1sts,” said her designer Andre Hoek. “Overall it was a remarkably strong performance.”
The other Hoek-designed Js, Topaz and the brand new Svea also performed very well with Svea winning the first race she’d ever taken part in. Unfortunately, she was forced to retire with gear failure later in the regatta.
Topaz’s performance improved steadily during the regattas and demonstrated excellent downwind speeds. Ruurt Meulemans, Hoek Design’s joint managing director, who was racing aboard Lionheart, said: “All in all these were great events for the Hoek-designed Js, particularly for Lionheart and her triple victory. She won the J Class racing during the Superyacht Cup and the overall Superyacht Cup and was victorious in the America's Cup J Class Regatta.”
Hoek Design congratulates the owners and crews who made it all happen and looks forward to the J-Class Worlds in Newport which will be held from August 19 to 26!
