82' Bharlin Blue
Launched in 2002 Bharlin Blue has been a revelation. She made headlines winning the Heineken Regatta in 2003 against some very stiff competition, which confirmed her status as a performance boat par excellence. In contrast to many contemporary yachts, Bharlin Blue was built in aluminium rather than carbon fibre to meet the owner's sturdiness requirements. The added weight was countered by a lifting keel (with a large bulb in an America's Cup-style geometry), carbon rudder/mast/furling boom, and lightweight interior and technical installations, resulting in an aluminium hull with a 40-tonne displacement. Other successful features that have since been incorporated in new designs include the flush deck with deckhouse, large engine room and twin cockpit arrangement. Bharlin Blue is ideal for both racing and long-distance cruising. Her aft segment is taken up by the crew quarters and galley, but there is another version of this design with the owners' stateroom aft and crew area forward.
