72' classic Baruna
We are very pleased and proud to be involved in the restoration of the famous 72 ft maxi yacht ‘Baruna’ that was built in 1938 and designed by Sparkman and Stephens.
This classic racing ketch from the pre- and post-WWII era is similar in concept to iconic S&S designs 'Bolero' and 'Dorade'. Baruna is one of the few famous S&S racing yachts of that period yet to be restored. The hull of the yacht was partly restored by Robbe and Berking in Germany and she is now at VMG Yachtbuilders in Holland for the majority of the work.
Our office is involved in all naval architecture, performance optimization, structural engineering, interior- and exterior design work. 'Baruna’s' performance will be optimized under the CIM handicap system and an extensive study has been carried out to compare sloop and yawl rigs, both of which were stepped in the past. Baruna is the third S&S restoration project we have been involved in, following 'Tempest' and the Huisman-built ketch 'Yonder'. She is due to be launched Spring 2021.
