Hoek Design combines classic styling and optimised hull design for stunning new motor yacht
Hoek Design is delighted to announce the launch of the new 33m, classically-styled motor yacht Far Niente, by her builders SES Yachts in Istanbul, Turkey.
With lines inspired by the famous Dutch herring luggers of the early 1900s, whose inherent sea keeping ability enabled them to work the demanding North Sea, Far Niente’s naval architecture, exterior and interior design are all by Hoek Design Naval Architecture.
“Once again we have combined the timeless and elegant good looks of a classic motor yacht design with a fully optimised, hi-tech underwater body shape using all the modern design programming we now have at our disposal,” said Andre Hoek.
“We have been evolving this design philosophy over many years and notably applied it to the multiple award-winning 56m motor yacht Blue II,” added Hoek.
Far Niente’s round-bilged hull design is the result of extensive optimisation using Hoek Design’s computational fluid dynamics programs (CFD), which were also applied to the yacht’s single propeller. “By optimising hull and propeller design we have been able to maximise fuel efficiency,” said Hoek managing partner Ruurt Meulemans.
Far Niente has an impressive range of 3750 nautical miles, easily enabling transatlantic passage-making. She has a maximum speed of 11 knots and makes 10 knots in normal conditions over typical cruising distances. She is fitted with Sleipner stabilisers for added comfort, bow and stern thrusters for manoeuvrability, twin generators and a large battery bank.
Her accommodation lay-out features a large owner’s cabin on the main deck with four guest cabins, three crew cabins and a galley on the lower deck. In addition to the wheelhouse on the bridge-deck there’s an impressive sky lounge which leads to a covered sun deck with dining facilities and a lounge area.
The contemporary styling and décor through the accommodation is by Hoek Design, using grey washed oak and white panelling with traditional deck heads and timber beams.
Far Niente’s decks feature deep bulwarks and foredeck stowage for two tenders, which are launched and retrieved using a specially-designed, retractable crane.
